Esad Agovic, a victim of war, refugee recognition

Primary school teacher, Mr. Agovic found himself at the age of 33 in
the heart of the conflict in the Balkans in the early 90’s. In 1992, a
bullet fired by a sniper pierced him his abdomen. His spine is hit and
Mr. Agovic loses sensitivity of his lower limbs. During the first seven
days of his hospitalization in Zagreb, he remained without news of his
family who had in the meantime joined Luxembourg to escape the
conflict. It was through his brother who has still been in Slovenia
that he received the first news of his family. Six months later, in
early June 1993, Mr. Agovic also joined the Grand-Duchy. As his
children attend school and his wife works, he is most of the time alone
and feels frustrated, degraded and eliminated from society. Finding a
job would be the solution for a brighter future that would enable him
to flourish. Mr. and Ms. Agovic think about returning to their native
country, but they prefer to wait until their children have finished
school.
